The Accra High Court has granted bail to Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, in the sum of GH¢30 million with two sureties, in the latest development in his ongoing extradition case.
The decision marks a significant turn in proceedings after an earlier ruling in which the court dismissed an application by his legal team seeking to halt the extradition process.
Following that decision, the court directed that Abu Trica be handed over to United States authorities to commence extradition proceedings. However, he was granted a 15-day window to challenge the directive through a habeas corpus application at the High Court.
At a previous sitting, the court had scheduled April 27 to hear his bail application, as his lawyers pursued efforts to secure his release pending a motion to have him discharged.
The latest ruling now grants him temporary freedom under strict bail conditions while legal proceedings continue.
The case remains ongoing, as his legal team is expected to challenge aspects of the extradition process in the coming days.
