The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources(MLNR) Hon. George Mireku-Duker and some delegates represented the sector Minister in Cairo few days ago to attend the maiden Egypt Mining Forum hosted by Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources.
The forum sought to consolidate Egypt’s mineral resources discoveries over a century and bring together African Countries and Mining Companies towards a sustainable future with shared value to the citizenry.
Speaking during a panel discussion on the topic “Balancing Resources & Responsibility – Collaborative Strategies for Sustainable and Responsible Mining, “ Hon. Mireku-Duker indicated that the various legal & regulatory framework needs to be stable over a reasonable period in order not to deter investors.
He also indicated that governments must help build the capacities of citizens to take advantage of Local Content policies in the sector and again the need for African mineral resources producing countries to be conscious of value addition.
Hon. Mireku-Duker stated that when all these parameters are in place then the various countries can take advantage of continental frameworks such as AfCFTA to trade amongst themselves and have a singular voice in terms of pricing and trading of the minerals to the world.
He further seized the opportunity to woo his compatriots to come to Ghana and invest because of her (Ghana) political stability and a more preferable destination for Mining Investment on the continent.
