Dr. Kwabena Dufuor, leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, has intimated that the Ahotor project which he initiated and funded is aimed at empowering the NDC party at the base and the grassroots and a comprehensive effort to position the party for the 2024 elections.
The former finance minister revealed that the NDC must build a strong national character and position itself to win the 2024 genera; elections. According to him, strong political parties win elections not candidates.
‘Our great party must focus on building well-oiled and a well-organized institutions that can win power and save the country from the current economic mess the new patriotic party under president Nana Addo has plunged the country into.
He opined that the Ashanti and Volta regions are clear case studies of his argument of strong political parties winning elections, In Ashanti region where the NPP is very strong and well organized, the party wins majority of the votes both in the presidential and parliamentary elections irrespective of the candidates they presents .
The same can be said of the Volta Region where our great party is strong, the NDC has dominated the presidential and parliamentary elections since 1992, it is not the candidates but the strength of the party.
The former governor of the bank of Ghana said the National Democratic Congress must get to work and devise strategies to make serious inroads in the Ashanti and Eastern regions if we want to wrestle power from the NPP, and expressed concern about the declining fortunes of the party in the Volta Region which he said does not augur well for the NDC.
The new patriotic party had 34,000 votes in the Volta region but as at 2020 the party has made some serious gains and had over 200,000 votes in the Volta Region and took away the Hohoe seat as well and called for an action plan to reverse the trend in 2024.
He cautioned party faithfuls not to be complacent and concluded that the 2024 elections is a done deal for the NDC because the NPP has failed Ghanaians, Dr Dufuor warns the rank and files of the NDC to unite and get to work. We need to commit our time and resources towards the 2024 elections and we dare not fail our people.
Our great party represents the best alternative to the disappointing Npp government and we have a task to win the elections and called for honest leadership and dedication from all and sundry/
Dr. Kwabena Dufuor said the Ahotor project was initiated to take the burden of financing local party activities off the shoulders of sitting members of parliament ,constituency, and branch executives/
He is optimistic that the 275 constituency across the country will take advantage of the Ahotor project and utilize it to substantially empower and reposition the NDC party at the grassroots, the cost of the Ahotor project is eight million ,two hundred and fifty thousand Ghana cedis/
