Residents of Akraman and New Sakyikrom, in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern Region, have pleaded with government to redesign their road network to save them from being crashed by moving vehicles and heavy trucks that ply the rout.
They want the Roads and Highway Ministry develop an appropriate and approved U-Turn that would make it safe for commuters from Asamankese , and other adjoining towns to join the Nsawam – Suhum Highways safely at the Nsawam bypass.
The residents at a press conference on Friday, agitated against recent fatalities recorded in the area as a result of the poor road network on the bypass .
Addressing the press, Rev. Dr. Samuel Nana Agyemang, leader of the group expressed worry over the number of fatalities that have been recorded in the area as a result the bad road network .
“This intersection has become unsafe for commuters as it continues experienced violent car crashes and thus impacting negatively on human lives
According to him innocent souls are beings lost each and every day through car crashes when vehicles attempt to join the main Suhum Nsawam high way.
He therefore called on Government to intervene and redesign the road to bring sanity and save human lives.
On his part. Jones Abbey who represented the Traditional Authority expressed worry about the danger people go through each day commuting the route.
Former Assembly Member for the Akraman and New Sakyikrom electoral Area, Mr. Hayford Owusu also disclosed that they have made several complains to the Assembly about the situation but to no avail
When contacted, the Municipal Chief Executive officer (MCE) for the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, Isaac Boabeng advised the community members to make their complaint official for it to be urgently addressed.
