The Alagumgube group has assured residents of the Upper East Region that the long-anticipated sod-cutting ceremony for the Bolgatanga Airport project will take place soon.
According to the group, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has given assurances that he is looking forward to cutting the sod to officially commence work on the airport project.
The assurance comes amid recent discussions surrounding the land designated for the airport and concerns raised by some groups over activities in the area.
Founder of Alagumgube, Mr. Gabriel Agambila, stated that the group has already addressed issues that arose during preliminary works on the site. He explained that when the runway was being extended, a shrine was mistakenly cleared. However, he noted that all the necessary traditional and customary processes were undertaken to resolve the matter.
Mr. Agambila further expressed concern about what he described as the sudden emergence of another group allegedly attempting to mislead authorities regarding the land for the airport project.
According to him, Alagumgube has been at the forefront of efforts related to the airport land, including initiating the clearing of the runway area and facilitating the preparation of cadastral documentation for the land.
He therefore called on the Minister for Transport, the Board of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, the Upper East Regional Minister, and the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to engage directly with Alagumgube for accurate clarification on issues relating to the airport land.
Mr. Agambila emphasized that the group remains committed to supporting the successful execution of the Bolgatanga Airport project, which is widely expected to boost economic activity, tourism, and connectivity in the Upper East Region.
He urged stakeholders and residents to remain calm and confident as steps are being taken toward the commencement of the project.
