Pupils in Have-Fiakpokorpe, a deprived farming community within the Wuxor, Have and Sremanu Electoral Area of the Akatsi South Municipality, have received significant support for basic education following a donation exercise spearheaded by the Rural Youth Network.
The non-profit organisation, led by Madam Edna Attah, donated about 160 pairs of footwear and sandals, together with hundreds of school bags, to pupils in the community. The initiative forms part of efforts to improve learning conditions, enhance school attendance and promote the overall well-being of schoolchildren in deprived area.
The donation was facilitated by the Assembly Member for Wuxor, Have and Sremanu Electoral Area, Hon. Japhet Festus Gbede, who welcomed the Rural Youth Network to Have-Fiakpokorpe and commended the organisation for its commitment to education at the grassroots.
Hon. Gbede described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that it would help ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while boosting the confidence, dignity and comfort of pupils as they attend school.
He further observed that such initiatives underscore the collective responsibility of stakeholders, including civil society organisations and community leaders, to invest in the future of children, particularly those in underserved rural communities.
The Assembly Member also expressed appreciation to Mr. Dickson Assan for recommending the electoral area to the organisation and for playing a key role in facilitating the engagement that resulted in the donation.
On behalf of the people of Wuxor, Have and Sremanu Electoral Area, Hon. Gbede thanked Madam Edna Attah and the entire Rural Youth Network team for choosing Have-Fiakpokorpe and making a meaningful contribution to education in the community.
The donation exercise, which took place yesterday, was warmly received by community members, teachers and pupils, who praised the gesture and appealed for sustained support to improve education in rural areas.
