ATIGS Lauds African Leaders Over Free Trade Initiative

The African Trade and Investment Global Summit under the Global Attain Advancement has lauded African leaders for the initiative in their attempt to making trade in Africa painstakingly easy and convenient for investors looking at trading with Africa.

In a workshop organized by the local organizing committee of ATIGS to discuss plans of tapping into the various opportunities expected out of the free trade initiative, the Local representative of ATIGS Ghana, Mr. Wisdom King Adukpo was full of praise for African leaders for burying their respective differences and agreeing to this trade agreement.

He revealed that ATIGS group as a global organization is ready to work with various leaders in Africa to see how the free trade Agreement can be implemented successfully to serve its intended purpose and to bring verifiable benefit to the African people.  “The African free trade area is presently the biggest free trade area with over one billion people. We need to work hard and invest in the processing sector in the country so that this agreement will not be a mirage, Africans must unite to add value to their products to make it very attractive in other markets.”

Forty-Four African heads of state and government officials on March 21 2018, signed the framework to establish the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). It is believed that the AfCFTA if fully implemented, could increase intra-African trade significantly and promote structural transformation by providing a lever to industrial development in African economies.

According to The Washington Post, by 2030, Africa may emerge as a $2.5 trillion potential market for household consumption and $4.2 trillion for business-to-business consumption. The treaty would result in a unified market of over 1. 2 billion people, with a combined gross product of over US$3 trillion the African Union have stated.
