Nanamon of Awutu Traditional Council have Declared war on Gomoa Fetteh Chiefs for using Land Guards to claim over ten communities belonging to the people of Awutu.
A land dispute between the Gomoa and Awutu Traditional Councils in the central region has been reignited as a result of an attempt by the Gomoa Fetteh traditional council to claim ownership of some ten communities situated in the Awutu enclave.
The two traditional councils have always battled over ownership of some lands in the area and most times causing much difficulties to residents and developers.
The tussle between the two traditional councils has persisted for several years.
Sometimes, landguards assigned by the respective authorities engage in violent clashes and residents as well as developers facing constant harassment from the landguards.
In some cases, developers have had to pay for double parcels of land they purchased from the respective councils.
Recently, the Gomoa Fetteh Stool announced its authority over Awutu Aprah, Awutu Loye, Awutu Yamoah Nkwanta, Awutu Papaase and some other six communities as they claimed ownership of those lands.
The atmosphere of the area is currently tensed as both councils have commissioned task forces to protect the lands on their behalf.
At a press conference by the Awutu Traditional council to register their displeasure over the development, Nifahene of Awutu Traditional Council Nai Ampem Darko, the traditional council asserted the council’s readiness to protect those lands through any means possible including facing landguards hired by their counterparts and has also accused the Central East Regional Police Commander DCOP David Eklu for allegedly condoning the activities of landguards from Gomoa Fetteh.
He called for the intervention of the IGP and other relevant bodies to forestall what he described as an ethnic conflict between the two factions.
Some angry Awutu indigenes also threatening to respond promptly to any aggression from their rival traditional area.
The Gomoa Fetteh traditional council has however debunked allegations of using landguards to claim Awutu lands in a forceful manner.
It says it is rather lawfully protecting those lands as allodial owners.
Speaking on behalf of the council, Abusuapanyin Kwaku Amoquandoh debunked the allegations that they were terrorizing developers with landguards.
He says the council has all appropriate documents to cover the lands.
