Six people are reported to have suffered various degrees of injuries at Asamankese after a clash between supporters of two traditional leaders
The clash is said to have caused fear and panic among indigenes in the West Akim Municipality in the Eastern region.
It began when the a group of young men in the town were assigned by the Chief of Aworasa, Asamankese; Barima Pobi Asomani II to announce a verdict on a court case he had sent to the
Koforidua High court and been ruled in his favour. The report indicates that Barima Pobi Asomani wanted to announce the victory from the chieftaincy case to all his subjects only to be attacked by the hooligans.
Speaking to the media, Barima Pobi Asomani II said “I only told the youth in the town to go round and announce my victory to the people in a KIA truck that contained loud speakers.
This was after we were denied access to all the radio stations in the town. I also told them to inform the people to meet me at the social gathering center for short speech only to be met by some armed young men believed to be coming from the camp of Osaaberima Adu Darko”, he said .
“They subjected my boys to severe beatings and attacks and chased them out of the street
. They even entered people’s homes and attacked them. People who had no knowledge about what was going on at the time were also attacked on the street. We are therefore appealing to the
Police and the National Security agencies in the area to step up security in a bid to stop the attacked”, He stated.
Meanwhile, Reports indicated that the Police Service has arrested one of the suspects,
