Intelligence gathered by The New Crusading GUIDE revealed that illegal mining activities otherwise known as galamsey is alarming in the Bosomtwe Forest reserve in the Minti community within the Bosome Freho District in the Ashanti Region.
The galamsey activities which has been alarming in the forest reserve for some time now has become a source of worry to the traditional authorities in the area.
Credible source revealed to this paper indicates that the Minti community where the forest reserve finds itself hinted that the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho, Mr. Yaw Danso has offered his full backing to the galamseyers to operate which has become very difficult for residents in the area to raise concerns.
Because of the support these illegal miners are receiving from the MCE, Residents are unable to fight the menace.
An opinion leader in Minti revealed that the activities of the illegal miners have not only affected the forest reserve but also polluted the river bodies in the area because of the chemical substances they used in washing to extract the gold.
He appealed to the Lands and Natural resources minister, Mr Kwaku Asomah Cheremeh, who is also acting as the chairman of the inter-ministerial committee on illegal mining (IMCIM) to call Mr. Yaw Danso to order to prevent the galamseyers from operating in the area.
Meanwhile some residents within Minti have threatened to vote against the NPP government if the galamsey activities continue in the area since the party’s chunk of votes comes from the area.
