The Controller and Accountant-General, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the interest of staff of the Department was prioritized.
He said this at the 2022 Annual General Conference of Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) Staff Welfare Scheme at Koforidua.
The Controller and Accountant-General added that employees are important stakeholders in every organization. “They influence organizational effectiveness by stabilizing the tremors within the business environment. It is therefore imperative for the management of every organization to commit themselves to ensuring the welfare of their staff. This is because; a satisfied employee is a key ingredient for the progress of every organization”, he said.
Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem observed that over the years, Management of the Department has put in place measures to facilitate the welfare needs of all staff. In line with that, the CAGD Staff Welfare Scheme has developed gradually from an Association to its current status as a Welfare Scheme and has since served as a common avenue for meeting the welfare needs of staff.
“The welfare of staff during their active service and even when on retirement are my major concerns. It is with this understanding, passion, conviction, and concern that made us as Management, put in place an Interim Management Committee, which has given birth to the current constitution and structure we are working with”, he noted.
The Controller and Accountant-General assured participants that documents such as the Operational Manual, Investment Policy, and a 5-year Strategic Plan would be tabled for discussion. These policy documents according to the Controller, underpin the growth, sustainability, and chart a positive future direction for the Welfare Scheme. He, therefore, urged all participants to take deliberations seriously and participate in all activities scheduled for the two-day event.
On her part, Deputy Controller and Accountant-General in charge of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Emelia Osei Derkyi noted that it has been long since such an event to purposefully deliberate on the welfare of staff took place. “Such an assembly of representatives from all the regions and the presence of the Controller himself is an indication of how management attaches importance to issues regarding the welfare of staff,” she said.
