Mr. Gabriel Adovoe Kwabla Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, a respected member of Ghana’s Council of State, has returned from Europe after participating in the 2025 Global Parliament of Mayors Annual Summit, where he joined city leaders from across the world in discussing practical ways to address urban challenges and promote inclusive development.
The summit, held under the invitation of Mayor Alix Desulme (Ed.D) of North Miami, USA, focused on three central themes: Empowering Cities, Caring Cities, and Delivering Democracy.
Discussions revolved around how local governments can respond to complex social and economic issues by leveraging community-level engagement, innovation, and public-private partnerships.
Speaking after the summit, Mr. Atokple highlighted the importance of connecting global insights to local realities.
“The real work takes place at the community level,” he noted, emphasizing that those closest to societal problems are often the best placed to craft solutions. Drawing from his business and policy experience, he stressed the need for intentional collaboration between government and the private sector to create jobs and improve livelihoods, particularly in regions like Volta.
He pledged to use the networks and ideas gained at the summit to attract investment and promote sustainable development in Ghana.
