The Founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews (Osofo Kyiriabossom), has indicated that the emergence of the Corona virus pandemic which has forced President Akufo Addo to suspend public events and close down schools would bring serious economic hardship on Ghanaians and cripple the country’s economy if steps are not taken to deal with the situation.
.
Osofo Kyiriabosom noted that the outbreak of COVID -19 is gradually halting business activities and sharply reducing income generation in Ghana.
Speaking to this paper in an interview, yesterday, he urged government to empower farmers to grow more food crops to increase harvest and food production to help minimize the predicted hardship and food shortages.
He indicated that “the only way we can prevent the disease from attacking us is to adhere to the regulations from the various health authorities and experts.
“I will not be surprised if the cost of food and other edible products increase within days as a result of the outbreak” he disclosed.
He called on authorities to shut Ghana’s borders with countries that have recorded COVID 19 cases.
He blamed the United States of America for the outbreak but was quick to state that the disease would soon varnish.
Osofo Kyiriabosom therefore admonished Ghanaians to remain calm, with the view that the disease would soon vanish.
He also called on the government to ensure that the outbreak does not affect Ghana’s growth.
Osofo Kyiriabosom however expressed over why schools and churches are been asked to be on break due to the outbreak with exclusion of Night Clubs.
