Principal elders and heads of the Kwesi Kani family at Kyibi in the Eastern Region, yesterday, stormed Millennium City at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, to perform the necessary traditions and customs to officially remove the soul of Lance Corporal Michael Danso, who was slain by a landguard identified as Benlord Ababio.
Amidst beating of drums and chanting of war songs, the members of Kwesi Kani family at Kyibi were joined by some chiefs and elders of Gomoa Nyanyano led by the Ankobeahene Nana Ayikoi I, to pour libation to mark the one-week observance of the killing of the soldier.
“Ladies and gentlemen, beyond mourning our deceased son and calling on the parties involved in the delivery of justice to sit up, be professional and quick with justice delivery, the family wants to on the death of our son to address the broader issues of the menace of landguards that are prevalent in Millennium city at Gomoa Fetteh,” the families stated.
Addressing a packed press conference at Millennium city, the head of the Kwesi Kani family at Kyib, Nana Yaw Boakye Ofori Atta, stated that they wanted the police to arrest Kwesi Alhaji, the second suspect in the killing of their Lance Corporal Michael Danso before the burial of the late soldier.
Flanked by the Abusuapani Kofi Akom, Kyib,Nana Yaw Boakye Ofori Atta clarified that they were aware that the suspect, reportedly a Chief in the area, is not recognized in the register of Chiefs in the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area.
He confirmed that Benlord Ababio is identified as a ranking member of a syndicate of landguards in Gomoa Fetteh, a violation of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036), which criminalizes “landguardism” in Ghana.
For his part, the Chief Executive of the 21st Century Estate, Kofi Asmah, expressed condolences to the family members of the late Lance Corporal Michael Danso.
Mr Asmah was not happy about the increasing attacks on the genuine land developers at the Millennium City in Gomoa Fetteh by the hired landguards lamenting that the land guard activities are killing business.
The seasoned estate developers called on the Vice President Dr Mahamadu Mahama to set up independent commission of enquiry to investigate the shooting and killing incidents at Millennium city and its adjoining communities.
