The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has apologised and issued a correction after mistakenly publishing the wrong photograph of a suspect in an ongoing gold smuggling case.

In a statement signed by Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer at GoldBod, the agency clarified that while the details released about suspect Mohammed Nandoli Rafeeq, also known as Salaam, were accurate, the image that accompanied the announcement was incorrect.

“The picture circulated was actually that of Mr. Shamlal Ahamed, Managing Director of International Operations at Malabar Gold and Diamonds,” the statement said.

GoldBod expressed “deep regret” over the error and formally apologised to Mr. Ahamed and Malabar Gold and Diamonds for any reputational harm caused.

The Board has since released the correct photograph of Mohammed Nandoli Rafeeq, who is currently being prosecuted in connection with a gold smuggling case involving RAFMOH Gold Limited and NK Bernard Enterprise.

GoldBod has called on all media houses that shared the wrong image to update their publications with the corrected version.
