Government has released a whooping amount of GHC7,563,791.79 to empower persons with disabilities (PWDs) economically.
The amount which has been sent through all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country is the District Assembly Common Fund allocation for first quarter of 2018.
In a statement signed and issued by the District Assembly Common Fund Administrator, Irene Naa Torshie-Lartey, the release of the fund on time is the demonstration of government’s commitment to the socio-economic empowerment of PWDs.
She stated that out of the said amound, Upper East will receive GH635,538.82, Upper West GH513 ,529.75, Northern Region 1,019,546.63 whilst GH831,780.78 will go to Brong Ahafo.
Ashanti Region will also receive GH42,457.30, Volta region GH1,181,047.80, Eastern Region GH1,060.836.76 and Greater Accra GH273 ,621.39.
The rest, she indicated will cover the remaining two regions with Central Region getting GH730,192.18 and GH575,240.56 going to Western Region.
She expressed hopes that the funds as disbursed will go a long way to impact positively on the living standards of PWDs in the country.
