The Minister for National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah has in a thinly-veiled letter to the Chairman of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), tasked the institution to take action on one Alhassan Bawa, in-charge of Basic Education in the University of Education, Winneba, (UEW), for allegedly maligning the Member of Parliament(MP) for the area.
Alhassan Bawa, at the least chance on social media reiterates his unsubstantiated allegation that the MP for Efutu Constituency, Hon. Afenyo Markin, was sabotaging the NPP government with his attempt to remove Rev. Fr. Anthony Afful Broni from the university as vice chancellor.
The letter, dated 7 June, this year, stated that the Paramount Chief of Efutu Traditional Area, supporters and sympathizers of the NPP as well as students of University of Education, Winneba, were unhappy about the social media postings by Alhassan Bawa, as, according to them, thepostings are intended to tarnish the image of the MP, to create the impression that there was chaos at UEW so as to bring the government into disrepute.
Also, the Chief of Efutu Zongo, Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV has expressed worry at the conduct of the same Alhassan Salifu Bawa’s articles seeking to malign the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area whilst the Vice Chancellor looks on.
According to the Chief, the conduct of the two, Rev. Fr. Anthony Afful Broni and Alhassan Salifu Bawa, were nothing short of attempts to cover-up corruption that is endemic within their ranks.
He recalled that Alhassan Salifu Bawa was at his Palace pleading with him to talk to government officials to withdraw auditors from the Auditor General’s Department.
Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV argued that “if you are clean and haven’t misappropriated state funds why were you afraid of Audit? I recall your apprehension that should the audit continue there will be a ‘big shame’ on your image.”
In the said letter copied to the Minister of Education and the Minister for National Security, he stressed that Bawa must apologize and retract all articles written against Hon. Afenyo Markin.
He also averred that there was the need under the current circumstances, for the reinstatement of all dismissed staff who became victims of ‘’your tyranny’’.
“I have also learnt that officers you came to my palace to allege are corrupt have been cleared of wrongdoings by EOCO so why do they still remain dismissed at home?” he queried.
The Chief also urged Rev. Fr. Anthony Afgful Broni to reflect on the words from the President when he admonished him (Afful Broni) to reconcile the University.
He stated however that, his conduct since he became the VC is proof that he is a ‘’divisionist.’’
He stated that, “Your posture of creating misleading impression of being bullied by Hon. ASfenyo-Markin is now known to all and sundry. Such baseless allegations that the MP is interfering in your administration will no more be entertained by discerning stakeholders”.
