Motor-riding hoodlums, numbering about fifty (50) launched scattering attack on the chief of Awaham community, a predominantly farming area in the Lower West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region, Osabarima Atiabisa Kantinka Pobi Asomaning, and his orderlies in the Palace, leaving broken Louver blades, air conditioners, amongst others; completely destroyed. The chief however escaped unhurt.
The marauding goon-squad, unable to enter the palace because it was locked from behind, this paper gathered, pelted the chief and the palace with stones, which broke the outside light, destroyed air-conditioners and louver blades on the semi-detached storey building.
Last Monday, 10 January, this year, the Police moved in to effect arrests after so many calls for one Kofi Archibald and his cohorts to appear before the Police, following a complaint lodged by the chief, fell on death ears.
Kofi Archibald it was who allegedly commandeered the youth to mix with funeral attenders to give credence to their supposed protest-without regard to the Public Order Act, as a mammoth one against an alluvial mining company (name withheld).
One person was arrested and New Crusading GUIDE learnt that on the way to the Akwatia Police Station, the marauding youth blocked the road with their moto bikes, amidst wielding of offensive weapons, in their bid to prevent the police from taking the suspect away.
When that failed, because Archibald had reportedly called to tell the youth not to prevent the police from carrying out their lawful duties, the enraged with motored with their moto bikes straight to the chief’s palace where they pelted the entire household with stones (published) and bolted.
Later, on Wednesday, 12 January, this year, Kofi Archibald, we were told, reported with his deputy, one Kwame Akyeampong, alias Appiah at Akwatia Police Station to apologize to the Police Commander to a allow them settle the matter at home.
The Akwatia Police Commander asked to them to go to the Chief’s palace and fix and repair all the broken and those that have been damaged lest he would process the case for court.
Meanwhile, Kofi Archibald are yet to fix the damages caused.
Recall that Kofi Archibald led a group calling itself the concerned youth of Akyem-Awaham, to stage a protest against their chief, and the MCE for allowing illegal mining activities to take place in the area.
According to the youth without any evidence, the mining activities ongoing in the area were destroying their water bodies hence calling on the appropriate authorities to intervene before they chase the miners out of the community.
Independent, checks however proved that what Archibvald and his cohorts were complaining about was far from the truth but that he was following on an old rift between his late father and the chief which happened in their youthful days.
More soon.
