The University of Professional Studies, UPSA, will today, Thursday, 16th June, 2022, appoint the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. KK Sarpong as the University’s new Chancellor.
The Investiture ceremony, considered one of the most enviable landmarks in academia, is expected to be graced with dignity, liaised with a galaxy of academic traditions and protocols.
A circular signed by the Registrar of the University, Dr. Koryoe Anim-Wright, stated that, “This message comes to inform the University community that, at the 82nd Meeting of the UPSA Governing Council held on Thursday, December9, 2021, the Governing Council unanimously voted to appoint Dr. K.K Sarpong, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Company, as the new Chancellor of the University”.
“In filling the Chancellor role, the criteria and processes delineated in section 114 0f the University of Professional Studies Act, ACT 850 and section 5.0 of the statutes, were diligently followed” the circular pointed out.
Accordingly, “in addition to the criteria stated in the Act and statutes, the University also considered the following important qualities in the selection of the candidate, a personality that shares the University’s values, vision, goals and ambitions and possess an affinity for its work”
Other considerations by the University for the selections Dr. Sarpong, the circular noted included that fact that the candidate, “recognises and celebrates the importance of higher education, has a distinguished public servant/service record, possesses proven fundraising skills and international connections, ability to promote the University and its achievements, regionally, nationally, and internationally”
“Dr Sarpong, the circular further indicated has a “proven mentorship and passion for social responsibility and community service” and above all, “excellent academic profile”.
The University, to this end, “congratulate Dr. Sarpong on his appointment and proudly welcome him as the UPSAs Chancellor” the circular concluded.
The investiture which is will be a very significant ceremony in the life of the University is expected to draw an academic procession that will include delegates from other universities marching in very colorful and enviable academic regalia to signify the importance of the event.
The remarkable event which takes place at the Dr. Ohene-Kunadu Auditorium of the University will be graced by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
