The management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has mounted a spirited defence for its CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, against allegations of financial misappropriation and procurement breaches made by former hospital lawyer, Kwame Adofo.
Mr. Adofo, who served as KATH’s lawyer until December 31, 2023, petitioned President Akufo-Addo accusing Prof Addai-Mensah of mismanaging funds and violating procurement laws since taking office in December 2022.
In a comprehensive statement, the hospital described the claims as baseless, unfounded and riddled with inaccuracies. The statement also highlighted Prof Addai-Mensah’s notable achievements in enhancing clinical care quality, upgrading infrastructure, and improving staff welfare, which has been widely recognized and praised by hospital stakeholders.
Meanwhile, labour unions at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have rallied in support of their CEO, Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah, following a petition calling for his removal.
The health workers including doctors, nurses, and various union members, have strongly refuted the claims made in the petition. They argue that the allegations do not reflect the true character of their CEO, whom they describe as a dedicated and effective leader.
“We, the Labour Unions in Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital stand in solidarity with the CEO and management of the hospital to continue their good works at KATH… We recognise the allegation against the CEO do not define his character and dedication to the well-being and development of the hospital”, the union said in a statement.
“We wish to put on record that we shall resist any attempt by any faceless individuals seeking to undermine the effort of the CEO because of their parochial interest”, the statement further added.
