The Executive Director of Danquah Institute, Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, has charged the young student members of the New Patriotic Party to take advantage of the numerous opportunities around them to build their capacities and leadership skills.
Speaking at the Upper East Regional TESCON Conference in Bolgatanga on Sunday, 10th November, the DI boss told the students that their success as future leaders rests on three things namely, know who they are by knowing what the Danquah-Dombo-Busia Tradition represents, derive their motivation to serve loyally from within, and lead wherever they find themselves.
According to the Director, the foregoing will equip them to identify and appreciate the opportunities that abound in party leadership.
He said, “our values are time-tested, and once you realize who you are, you will understand your opponents and why they are where they are”, to a thunderous applause from the students.
Mr. Ahiagbah said they should draw their motivation from within, instead of looking up to people in leadership or circumstances to stimulate them into action or service to the party.
According to him, “this could only be done if you know the foundationof the party or who you are.
The Director stressed that self-motivation is the fuel that would drive the attainment of their aspirations.”
Finally, he appealed to the students to endeavor to lead wherever they find themselves, no matter how small or big the responsibility because “that is how you become the next organizer, secretary, chairman, or even flagbearer of our great party.
Mr. Ahiagbah, concluded by saying the student members must internalize the view that, to become good leaders, they must first perfect the art of being followers and loyal supporters.
Other speakers at the conference included Henry Nana Boakye, NPP National Youth Organizer, Jerry Osei-Poku, NPP Eastern Regional Youth Organizer, Mr. Kamal Deen, NPP Deputy Communications Director, and Emmanuel Asigri, former director of the National Youth Authority (NYA) and Abdul Wahab Hanan, CEO of the National Food Buffer Stock (NAFCO).
The conference, dubbed Bolga TESCON 2019, was under the theme: ‘Rebranding, Retooling and Revitalizing TESCON beyond Campuses’.
