Nana Dr. Okra Baadu, the Gyaasehene of Obo-Kwahu in the Eastern region, has rebuffed claims that there is a rival chief in Kwahu, asserting that Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, remains the only legitimate chief in the area.
For destoolment of a gazetted chief of the calibre of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II to be successful, Gyaasehene Okra Baadu said, there are processes to be followed, including giving fair hearing to the chief being accused. But in the case of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, nobody has accused him, neither has anybody given him fair hearing, which makes the purported destoolment null and void.
“Everybody knows Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II. He has not spoken this this incident happened. The matter is in court, awaiting judgment on 17 February so I won’t comment on the details. Daasebre has not been accused nor found guilty of any offence, so how do you say you have destooled him? In 2025, it is not lawful. You cannot just remove the sandals of a chief and say you have destooled him when the law, the 1992 Constitution and the Chieftaincy Act recognises him as the chief. Per the Constitution and Chieftaincy Act, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II is the chief of Kwahu,” the Gyaasehene stressed.
Prodded by Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie of Okay FM on who could possibly be behind the thugs who that taken over the palace, Nana Dr. Okra Baadu said he had also heard that one person who is scrambling for everything (name withheld) was the one behind it, but being the gentleman of Kwahu has Daasebre Agyapong is, he would ensure the area remained peaceful.
Judgement on the chieftaincy dispute in Kwahu is expected to be given on 17 February, this year.
