Labianca Company Ltd and Rockland Farms have entered into partnership to boost local poultry industry by marketing and distributing local broilers on the Ghanaian market.
Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in Charge of Livestock, Mr Mohammed Hardi Tufeiru who was addressing the commissioning of this new partnership deal between the two companies, expressed optimism that the partnership will re-energize poultry farmers in the country to increase production.
He said: “Government will continue to initiate policies and programmes relevant to the development of the poultry sub-sector.”
The Deputy Minister averred that the launching of the Rearing for Food and Jobs Programme by His Excellency the President have bought several institutions into the idea to make the Government’s vision of increasing domestic meat production and job creation for Ghanaians a reality.
He mentioned that such good will to support the Government to improve livelihoods of the people of Ghana.
He noted that the partnership between Labianca Company Limited, a major importer marketer of poultry products and Rockland Farms, a major producer of poultry was a giant breakthrough which, will be beneficial to the entire poultry sub-sector.
“More resources will be invested in revamping the poultry industry and to ensure that it marches-up to the demands of consumers in Ghana and the entire West African sub region. Let me assure everyone that the Government, led by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo will continue to do more to protect the interest of Ghanaian businesses and the livelihoods of the people of Ghana.”
Mrs Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh, owner of founder Labianca Company Limited, lamented the lack of feed as one major challenge facing the local poultry industry, saying that, “Until we are able to address the challenges with feed, we cannot compete with the imported ones.”
She called on the government and other stakeholders to explore ways of dealing with the challenges, adding that the collapse of the local poultry industry would exacerbate unemployment which would impact negatively on the economy.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rockland Farms, Edith Wheatland Akorsah on her part, said the partnership was a fulfilment of a long-standing dream of the local poultry industry adding that the success of such a feat can only be sustained with more collaboration among industry players.
Mr Victor Oppong Adjei, National Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers, said the poultry industry has contributed significantly to the socio-economic growth and development of the country with a potential for creating over a million jobs along the value chain.
He commended management of Labianca Company Ltd for demonstrating a remarkable resilience, determination and willingness to promote and market the locally produced broilers through collaboration with a local poultry meat processor.
