Some Ghanaians on social media cannot come into terms with the level of inconsistency displayed by Former President Mahama on why he lost the 2016 December general elections.
It will be recalled that sometime in 2017, former president John Dramani Mahama
Attributed his defeat in the polls to the fact that the National Democratic Congress during the polls was a lame horse destined to lose regardless of his hard work.
“If you ride a lame horse into a race and you lose the race, your priority must be to cure the lameness of the horse,” he said.
Subsequently, in 2017, the former President while addressing some Party supporters blamed his defeat on what he termed as an “Incumbency disadvantage’’ which prevented him from saying the things he wanted to say and so Ghanaians decided to vote against him in the polls.
During his tour of the Central Region as part of his campaign to once again lead the National Democratic Congress, Former President Mahama pointed fingers at some of his party members, accusing them of stealing and diverting money and resources meant for his campaign.
According to him, some greedy and selfish people in the NDC sat on campaign resources meant for the grassroots and that was why he lost the election.
While in the same Central Region on his campaign tour, the same John
Mahama who has in time past attributed his defeat to a lame horse, incumbency disadvantage, and diversion of campaign resources to the grassroots told party supporters that his defeat was orchestrated by
God and that God wanted him to lose the elections.
“I am now convinced that my shocking defeat at the polls was orchestrated by God,” he told a gathering of party members at Awutu Senya East in the Central Region.
The latest revelation by the former President on why he lost the election has been tied to a supposed rigging agenda of the current government. According to him, in 2020, the National Democratic Congress must be vigilant and not allow the New Patriotic Party to rig the elections as they did in 2016.
John Mahama is the first sitting President to lose a presidential election, Mr. John Dramani Mahama was defeated in the 2016 race by
President Akufo-Addo with a margin of about 1,002,749 votes.
