Newly appointed medical doctors across Ghana say they are facing unbearable hardship after working for nearly eight months without receiving their rightful salaries.
According to the young professionals, some of them have been paid for only one month since January 2025, while others have not been paid at all.
The situation has left many of them struggling to survive, with some resorting to financial support from their parents—despite officially being employees of the state.
“These are young doctors who sacrificed years of study and whose parents spent millions of Ghana cedis on their education at medical school. Yet today, instead of being able to support themselves and their families, many still rely on their parents just to buy food and water,” one of the affected doctors lamented.
The doctors describe the development as a “dead situation” that undermines morale in the health sector and risks pushing many of them out of the system.
They are therefore appealing directly to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene by instructing the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to urgently release funds to settle the arrears.
“This is not just about money—it is about fairness, dignity, and the value of the labour we are providing to save lives every day,” the doctors emphasized, urging government to act immediately to restore confidence and ease the crushing financial strain they face.
