The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. John Boadu’s failure to attend a conference organised by some 275 constituency chairmen over the weekend has sparked anger by the party executives .
The meeting scheduled to take place at the Eastern Regional Capital Koforidual was meant to, discuss issues pertaining to the welfare of members of the party.
The conference which was initiated by NPP constituency chairmen across the 275 constituencies of the country was also aimed at instituting a welfare scheme for NPP executives at all levels of the party and the base at large.
According to the party executives, John Boadu who was invited to the conference, did not only decline the invitation but also sought to use his influence as the General Secretary of the party to prevent the conference from taking place, claiming it is unconstitutional.
The executives believe JohnBoadu clearly disagreed with the institution of the welfare scheme and stated his opposition to same without any shred of equivocation and even vowed to prevent the conference from taking off when the organizers called on him ahead of the conference to brief him on their intention.
Some aggrieved party constituency chairmen who did not want their identities disclosed opined that Mr. Boadu has disrespected them for not honouring their invitation and wondered how the National Chairman; Mr. Freddie Blay, the National Organizer; Mr. Sammy Awuku, the National Treasurer; Frederick Abankwah, a representative of the vice president, Mr. Fred Oware, Mr. Alan Kyeremanten’s representative, Dr.Annor, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong among others could make time out of their busy schedules to attend the conference only for Mr. Boadu to blatantly decline their invitation and oppose the establishment of a welfare scheme for the party.
“If Mr. Boadu claims the welfare scheme is unconstitutional, why did the other national officers attend the conference? The volunteer groups in the party, are they constitutional?
Were they not used for the 2016 and 2020 elections? Mr. John Boadu simply does not care about the welfare of his own people, if he cared about his own chairmen he would have made time to attend and support this welfare scheme. He attended cabinet meeting with Mr. Freddie Blay on the said day, why did Freddie Blay honour our invitation and he John Boadu refused?
So many horrible things like accidents can occur in the campaign period and a proper welfare scheme when established can be used to address some of these issues”, another aggrieved chairman added.
The constituency chairmen are very displeased with the actions of Mr. John Boadu and have concluded that he is a very self centered heartless individual who does not care about the welfare of others. They have since vowed to remove him from office as the party’s general secretary come 2022 NPP internal elections. They further dared John Boadu to write 275 suspension letters for all the Constituency chairmen if indeed their conference is unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, all efforts to speak with the NPP’s General Secretary have proven futile.
