The founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike, has rendered an unqualified apology to the Ashanti King, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II over his galamsey comments which he (Odike) believe was misrepresented in the media.
Akwasi Addai Odike was reported to have made the pronouncements in a bid to incite the youth of Asanteman against Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during a live program on Oyerepa Radio in Kumasi for which he was banned from entering Asanteman.
His utterances were regarded as an attack and a rebellion against the Asante Kingdom.
Meanwhile, in an interview, he explained that his pronunciations on Oyerepa Radio was targeted at chiefs in the Region who have allowed their jurisdictions to be destroyed by the galamsey menace and not in any way directed at Otumfuor.
He said unfortunately, the media rather twisted his pronouncements and gave it a different interpretation which went to create the impression as though he was attacking the King.
Akwasi Addai Odike said, “I stand to correct that, I didn’t mean to embarrass our King and all the media reportage r3garding that pronouncement must be discarded.”
He however said that, any inconvenience caused the Ashanti King and Asanteman is “deeply regretted.”
Odike, as he is popularly called also expressed his readiness to appear before the Ashanti King, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II any time, any day to make amends and to put things right.
