There was pandemonium at Kwabenya last Saturday when three heavily armed Police officers stormed the area and demolished a property worth over GHc100, 000.
Information gathered by this paper reveals that the three police officers were authorized by a certain woman who had just returned from Europe to embark on the said exercise.
Sources have it that the three Police officers were led by one Mr. Asare, a presidential staffer who supervised the demolishing. They were alleged to have assaulted the legitimate owner of the property and dumped him by the roadside after they had dragged him in handcuff.
Further information indicates that the police officers who were not stationed at the Kwabenya Estates police station threatened to kill the victim if he stepped on the land again.
Speaking in an interview with the New Crusading Guide, Justice Mensah, who was allegedly assaulted by the police officers, said he received a phone call from the people he had authorized to take care of his house about the presence of the Police at the site. He said based on the information, he quickly rushed to the place. “It was there that the Police men pounced on me and beat me mercilessly when I tried to introduce myself as the original owner of the property”. He narrated
“The police officers placed a handcuff on my wrist when I tried to know why they had stormed the place without any court warrant to destroy a property I have built with my life savings” .He said
Mr. Mensah who is currently receiving treatment at the Atomic Hospital said he acquired the land legally three years and expressed surprise at the action of the police officers.
Meanwhile, when this reporter visited the Ashonman Estate Police station for verification, the station commander, Chief Inspector R.B. Mensah said he was not aware of the police action. He said he never authorized any police officer in the district to supervise any demolishing exercise.
“I did not order any officer from my outfit to embark such an illegal act and we are there working hard to fish out such officers” he disclosed.
