The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has called on government to purchase a new presidential aircraft, arguing that it is a necessary investment to safeguard the President’s safety and ensure operational efficiency.
According to the former police officer and security analyst, the current Falcon 900 Executive Jet, acquired in 2010, has become costly to maintain and increasingly unreliable due to frequent repairs and lengthy maintenance processes.
His comment follows an update from Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi, who disclosed that the Falcon jet is undergoing final testing in France after a mandatory 24-month and 1,600-flying-hour inspection at Dassault Falcon Service in Le Bourget. The aircraft was sent for maintenance in March 2025.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Mr. Toobu said Ghana must take a pragmatic approach to the issue rather than politicising it.
> “Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the dollar respects you, so buying a new presidential jet should be on the front burner. Blend safety and security with economics,” he wrote.
Mr. Toobu emphasised that the debate over the presidential jet should focus on national safety, cost-efficiency, and reliability rather than partisan considerations.
He noted that continued spending on repairs and chartered flights for official travel only reinforces the need for a modern, energy-efficient aircraft that meets global aviation standards.
