President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that modernising agriculture through innovation and technology is essential to driving Ghana’s economic transformation and long-term prosperity.
Speaking as the special guest at the Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026, the President said such platforms are critical in bridging gaps between research, industry, and investment, helping reposition agriculture as a viable engine for growth.
According to him, the fair goes beyond showcasing equipment, serving instead as a hub that connects ideas to enterprise and innovation to real economic opportunities. He stressed that this shift is key to transforming agriculture from a subsistence activity into a productive and profitable sector.
Mahama observed that across Africa, agriculture is often viewed narrowly in terms of vulnerability and small-scale farming. However, he argued that with the right structure and investment, the sector can become a powerful driver of national development.
He emphasised that agriculture should be understood in broader terms—encompassing value addition, industrialisation, job creation, exports, and technological advancement.
The President further called for a comprehensive upgrade of the agricultural value chain, noting that the future of the sector lies not in expanding farmland alone, but in improving processes from production to processing, logistics, packaging, and access to global markets.
