Polling Station Executives in the Fomena constituency have appealed to the President, HE Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo to retain the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Kusi Kwaku Eric for playing significant role in ensuring that the party retains power.
According to them, Hon. Kusi Kwaku Eric was the face of their campaign in the constituency, and hence must be appreciated.
In a Petition to the President, the Group noted that, “In fact, Hon. Kusi Kwaku Eric (DCE) was the face of our campaign in the constituency. Indeed his commitment and contribution before, during and after the elections contributed to the party’s performance especially the presidential. Imagine what would have been the results for H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo if Hon. DCE and Hon MP had come together and campaign for the party.”
With all the roles the DCE played in ensuring that the party retains the seat, the group appeals to the President to Maintain Hon Kusi Kwaku Eric as DCE for Adansi North District For The betterment of the party in the constituency.
“It is important to draw the attention of H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo the president of the Republic, National and Regional executives that some supporters of the independent candidate in Fomena constituency during 2020 general elections including their campaign manager Samuel Kwaku Afoakwah, operations manager Daniel Nkansah, PRO Seth Oduro and Desmond Afoakwah are now lobbying for DCE’s Position in our constituency and for that matter Adansi North District.”
They also stressed that they are confident of putting up a good fight during the 2020 elections in the constituency to rescue the seat from the independent candidate.
They said, their efforts however did not materialized because aggrieved supporters of the Independent Candidate sensing looming danger of losing the elections connived with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to vote skirt and blouse with the hope that the independent candidate would join NDC in parliament should Mahama wins.
The Polling Station Executives who issued a statement on behalf of the entire electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Station executives pointed out that whilst they were campaigning for the party, the Independent Candidate and his cohorts were also campaigning against the party.
“The results of the elections confirm that,” they stated.
During the last elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP had 19,224 Votes whilst John Dramani Mahama of the NDC managed to get 6,457 Votes.
On the Parliamentary side, Philip Ofori-Asante of the NPP garnered 10,798 Votes; Chritiana Ama Ranson Barabu of the NDC also got 2,608 votes whilst Andrew Asiamah Amoako the Independent candidate secured 12,805 Votes.
According to Alhassan Adam, Fomena Constituency Youth Organiser who signed the Press Release together with other executives, the difference between NPP Presidential candidate and NPP parliamentary candidate is 8,428 votes whilst on the other hand, the difference between NDC Presidential candidate and NDC Parliamentary candidate is 3,849 votes.
“Had it not been the connivance of the Independent candidate and NDC, under no circumstance that NDC people would have voted 6,457 for H.E. John Dramani Mahama and 2,608 for their parliamentary candidate in the person of Christiana Ama Ranson Barabu.”
They also stressed that they did all they could as a party to rescue the seat from the independent candidate.
According to them, the perception that the former chairman, Akwasi Nti Asamoah has been changing MP’s in Fomena constituency every now and then, was one of the NDC strategies and propaganda machinery set up to run down the party in the constituency in order to snatch the seat from NPP, so that the independent candidate would join them in parliament should Mahama win, which they were very much optimistic of.
