The District Chief Executive of Sekyere East District in the Ashanti Region, Hon Mary Boatemaa Marfo has taken stock of some achievements the Assembly has chalked during her tenure of office in two (2) and half years.
She disclosed that, the Assembly has undertaken some pogrammes in five areas including decentralized scholarship, government flagship programme, developmental projects, good governance and revenue performance of the assembly.
According to Hon DCE, the eamount for the assessment of the scholarship packages was Seventy One Thousand Eight Hundred Ghana cedis (Gh¢71,800.00).
She explained that 100 students have been selected for scholarship packages but 63 of the 100 qualified for their assessment of the District scholarship programme being implemented by the president to the District with the total cost Gh¢71,800.00.
She continued that, the District Assembly has executed several infrastructure projects in order to improve teaching and learning in their schools which include the
Construction of 15 classroom blocks with office, store, staff common room and ICT for various basic schools across the District and 6 unit classroom blocks at seniagya.
She also talked about the furnishings and construction of CHPS compounds at MotoKrodua, Ntunkumso and Ahinsan.
The DCE has constructed Business Resource Centre at Effiduase.
She mentioned flagship programme implemented by the President: Free SHS, planting for food and jobs, one district one factory, and the Nation Builders Corp (NABCO) as some of the laudable social intervention programmes.
The Government has initiated steps in fulfilment of its manifesto promise in 2016 general election by seeking an amendment in Parliament to article 243, clause (1) of the constitution of Ghana.
“This is the first time of our history, popular local election of MMDCES and amending article 55 (3) of the constitution to open all local government election to participate parties and part–sponsored candidate,” she said.
She urged everyone to take part in upcoming district level election and to vote yes to support the government policies initiative.
