The Association of Community Chiefs of Ada Traditional Area have expressed their disgust at the actions and inactions of certain personalities, including the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Area, which are thwarting the development of the area which is being champion through the takeover of Ada Songor Lagoon by Electrochem Ghana Limited.
Addressing a Press Conference last Thursday, November 30, 2023, Spokesperson for the Group Nene Dame Sewu II, blamed the Ada Songor disturbances on the Member of Parliament, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe Ghansah and accused her of undermining the governance system in Ada.
They said, on several occasions the MP has spoken about the issues of Ada on nation al platforms and in Parliament without consulting the traditional Council for clarity.
They made a classic example of her comments on the lease of the Ada Songor concession to Electrochem Ghana Limited.
“We can say, she is a contributor to the uproar in Ada because she misinformed the good people of Ada through a local Radio station and other political platforms during the 2020 elections…stating that the current government together with the Ada Traditional Council have sold the Songor Lagoon to Electrochem and that the people should vote for her government to come to power for her to retrieve the Lagoon for the people of Ada,” Nene Dame Sewu II stated.
He also maintained that, “We emphatically say that these actions and inactions undermines the traditional governance system of Ada.”
Nene Dame Sewu II also cautioned the ADA Songor Lagoon Association (ASLA) to stop presenting themselves as the mouthpiece of Ada, and properly label themselves as illegal miners.
He said: “We will not tolerate the parochial interest of ASLA at the expense of the development of Ada. We want to let them know that they ju7st identify and label themselves properly as operators of ‘Achiakpo’ or illegal miners and not the mouthpiece of Ada.”
The Association of Community Chiefs however renders an unqualified apology to Electrochem Ghana limited over the recent disturbances and offered a word of sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families whilst urging the security services to delve deep into the disturbances in order to bring peace.
