Vilac International School has pledged to make some financial donations to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The gesture by the school is expected to be one of its numerous CSR’ initiatives aimed at supporting and promoting health care in Ghana.
The Principal of the School, Eunice Adjei-Wiredu made this known at the 16th graduation and academic excellence awards ceremony at its New Achimota site in Accra on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Eunice Adjei-Wiredu explained that “In executing our CSR as an educational centre, we taught it wise to render our little assistance to the cardiothoracic centre and other areas across the country”.
The Vilac International school, she disclosed has over the years assisted the Ghana Prisons Correctional Centre, Narteyosie school and the Apau Wawase Schools in the Eastern Region as well as the Ghana Heart Foundation to help children with neo-genital heart disorders.
She indicated that the school is prepared to support widows and further rehabilitate the dilapidated Apau Wawase School and the Eye of the Lord Orphanage.
The Vilac School, she said, has chalked numerous successes with regard to academic excellence over the years to due competent and proper management.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. It gladdens my heart to see that from a humble beginning of a student population of 75 in 2008, Vilac has made remarkable progress not only in numerical strength but also in quality of instruction. These major achievements have come about by dint of the hard work of all members of our Vilac family, “she stated.
She disclosed that over the years, Vilac as a school has consistently provided holistic education to its students to enable them fit into the real world, saying that in addition to mainstream academic work, the institution has introduced cutting edge programs to its students with the latest being its STEM curriculum.
“In order for our students to fully comprehend the theoretical aspects of their studies, STEM was adopted to help in this regard. With changes constantly occurring in our global economy, current jobs are disappearing due to automation, and new jobs are emerging every day as a result of technological advances. Skills developed by students through STEM provide them with the foundation to succeed at school and beyond. Employer demand for STEM qualifications and skills is high, and will continue to increase in the future and we in Vilac believe that STEM will empower our students with the skills to succeed and adapt to this changing world” she further hunted.
The Principal noted there was also a major facelift of the school’s Senior High Computer lab as well as the Preschool Practical Life/Sensorial Room.
She was also happy to disclose that projectors have been procured for Grades 1 to13 with all Junior and Senior High classrooms fully connected, adding that the field of sports has not been left out with the procurement of additional sporting equipment.
“Up until 2012, Vilac International School was the only international school in Ghana that had successfully run both the Ghanaian and the Cambridge International Examinations Curricular concurrently. Over the years, candidates of the school have exceeded the global averages of all three subjects written at the Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary levels, with the majority of its students achieving perfect scores of 100%” she stated.
She disclosed that most of their students offering international program have been beneficiaries of full scholarships to notable prep schools and partial scholarships to universities in the United States, United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Canada, adding that In the case of students sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) their students have achieved 100% distinction back-to-back for thirteen consecutive years leading to the successful placement of their students in first class senior high schools like Wesley Girls Senior High, Presby Boys Senior High, Holy Child School, Mfantsipim School, Aburi Girls Senior High, Prempeh College, St’ Rose’s Senior High, and Achimota Senior High, among others.

Notable global corporate institutions like Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, John Hopkins Hospital, the US Army, and Deloitte and Touche are beneficiaries of Vilac products” the Principal stated.
According to her, in line with their vision as an institution to provide holistic education, our students are provided with the opportunity to experience education in other countries through the school’s yearly exchange programs with notable educational institutions.
She further said school provides an array of an enviable set of extracurricular activities to harness the potential of their students.
She said the schools offer activities such as soccer, ballet, music instruction, red cross, girls guide, cadet, Taekwondo, swimming, and African cultural troupe.
