The Volta River Authority (VRA) has successfully completed maintenance works on its leaked gas network in the Aboaze enclave in the Western Region which, had hitherto, been a hindrance in connecting some communities in the country with electricity.
The state utility provider has since resumed its operations and receiving gas from the Ghana National Gas Company.
VRA from October 30, 2021 to November 20, 2021, shutdown to commence maintenance works on its leaked gas pipelines in the Aboaze enclave, an action which caused erratic power outages in some communities, especially, in Kumasi and its environs.
Returning to full operations therefore comes as a good with those communities affected by power outages will now heave a sigh of relief, especially, as Christmas approaches and the demand for electricity is highly on their agenda.
This means that VRA now receives comingled gas from the Ghana Gas Pipeline and Eni to power their plants.
One of the engineers from VRA who did not want his name to be disclosed said gas leaks were normal in the production history of the state utility company and was very important that they address them to prevent the situation from getting worse.
“You can run your car over many years and expect not to have a problem, especially, hose leaks. Same in this industry”, he noted.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana, …… commenting on the development said, it was a welcome news that VRA has resumed its operations, especially, going into the festive occasion, since all those communities that were affected by erratic power outages will now be enjoy stable power.
“This is what Ghana National Gas Company has been waiting for. We thank the engineers from VRA for doing a great job. They are now receiving gas from us and I believe that all those communities that were experience erratic power supply will now enjoy stable power. Ghana Gas Company and VRA will continue work together to give Ghanaians the best”, he noted.
A statement from the VRA said Ghana National Gas Company and other industry players have been very supportive in this troubleshooting exercise and are cooperating to ensure stability in the country power generation and distribution sector.
