The Zongo communities in Kumasi were filled with celebration and gratitude on Monday as ten new students were inducted into the McDan Scholarship Scheme, further expanding a program that now supports over 300 young scholars across Ghana.
The ceremony, held during a vibrant traditional durbar attended by chiefs and elders of Kumasi’s diverse Zongo community, recognised the McDan Foundation’s life-changing educational support over the past four years. The event highlighted how the Foundation’s scholarships have enabled numerous students from Zongo communities to pursue tertiary education at leading institutions such as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and beyond.
Dr. Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, was personally on hand to induct the new scholars and receive the community’s thanks. Leaders hailed him as the *“Messiah of the Zongo”* for his consistent efforts to remove financial barriers to higher education.
“This event is more than just ceremony — it is our heartfelt gratitude to someone who has transformed the educational prospects of our youth,” remarked one of the presiding chiefs. “Our graduates here today stand as proof of the difference this support has made.”
During the ceremony, Dr. McKorley reminded the new scholarship recipients of the responsibility that comes with opportunity. “This is more than just paying fees,” he said. “It is an investment in your future and in your community. We hope you will excel in your studies and return as leaders and problem-solvers.”
With the induction of these ten new students, the McDan Scholarship Scheme now supports more than 300 beneficiaries enrolled at universities and tertiary institutions across Ghana. The program continues to serve as a beacon of hope, providing talented but underprivileged youth with a path to higher education and brighter futures.
The ceremony, which saw participation from past graduates, traditional leaders, and community members, once again underscored the McDan Foundation’s commitment to education as a powerful tool for empowerment and community transformation.
