The 2023 WASSCE results released by the WAEC are the best results the country has recorded for almost the past one decade.

The result which saw many students performing very well in the Core Subjects is a great testimony that something spectacular was taking place within the nation’s education space.

It is worth noting that despite the regular attacks on the government for spending huge sums of the nation’s budget on the education sector, it keeps recording outstanding results year after year which is an evidence of the massive improvement in the education sector.

The impressive results could be attributed to the pragmatic measures being implemented by the government through the ongoing education reforms in the country.

Notable among the prudent measures being implemented to boost the performance of education in the country are the increased contact hours in schools, payment of extra classes grants, the provision of textbooks (core subjects), equipping of science laboratories and building new science laboratories in existing new schools.

Other interventions are the creation of conducive teaching and learning environments in schools as some of the major interventions introduced by the Education Ministry in collaboration with other agencies leading the attainment of this feat.

Aside from these, the government has introduced the Professional Development Allowance with the view to helping teachers sharpen their skills through refresher workshops and seminars organized regularly in their schools and communities.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Monday released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2023 Ghana Only Version of WASSCE for school candidates.

In a press statement dated December 18, 2023, it described this year’s results as the best results in the last four years from 2020 to 2023, per the performance statistics released.

Meanwhile, the results have been hosted online and candidates who so desire may access their results at the Council’s website.

Performance Statistics

A total number of 448,674 candidates made up of 212,453 males and 236,221 females from 975 schools entered the examination.

This figure is 5.8 per cent higher than the 2022 entry figure of 422,883.

A total number of 3,404 (0.75 per cent) were absent from the examination.

The performance of candidates with respect to the four Core Subjects is shown in the tables below.
