The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has accepted the electoral outcome of the 2024 general elections.
According to him, that represents the decision of the Ghanaian people and he respects that.
Preliminary results from the elections held on Saturday, December 7, indicate that Dr. Bawumia is trailing significantly behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in what was described as a decisive defeat for the ruling party.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the early projections and emphasized his commitment to fostering peace and unity in the country amidst growing tensions among the populace.
Dr. Bawumia assured NPP supporters that the party would learn from this experience and bounce back stronger in future elections.
Dr Bawumia said, “I respect the decision of Ghanaians, I took this decision to stop the growing tension.”
He urged all our supporters to remain calm and prioritize the peace and stability of our nation.
He thanked Ghanaians people for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed his commitment to the country’s democratic principles.
Results trickling in so far shows Dr Bawumia trailing behind Mahama with some key NPP Members of Parliament losing their seats, but the Electoral Commission (EC) is expected to officially certify the final results.
