The newly-elected General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua has urged members of the party to put their best foot forward in securing victory in the 2024 general elections.
“Like the five fingers of the human hand, we can best function when we work together. I, therefore, entreat all and sundry to put on their boots and reach out to the nooks and crannies of the country in our bid to recapture lost parliamentary seats and secure another victory in 2024,” Mr. Kodua said in a statement yesterday.
Justin Frimpong Kodua defeated the former General Secretary of the party, John Boadu to emerge as the new chief scribe for the governing party during the NPP’s national delegates conference held over the weekend.
He won with 2,837 votes against his main contender, who polled 2,524 votes during the election.
Mr. Kodua urged the defeated aspirants to set aside their “differences and work towards achieving the common goal of winning the 2024 elections.”
“I salute all contestants for their bravery and tenacity. Indeed, the journey across the country was no easy task. More importantly, there are no losers and winners in the dictionary of the NPP as we remain the offsprings of a single womb. Let us, therefore, put aside the little differences that arose during the campaign and electioneering period, work together and make history in 2024.”
He pledged that under his reign as General Secretary, he will run a “transparent” administration which will not entertain some of these difficulties when it comes to party internal elections, where some delegates will be prevented from voting.
“Under my watch, I will be fair but firm and make sure that party rules will work, there will be discipline in our party, there will be discipline in NPP, we are going to apply the constitution of NPP to the fullest without fear or favour, under my watch the party will not make a directive and people will go contrary to the directive,”
In a radio interview on Accra based Oman FM, on Monday morning July 18, 2022] a day after he became General Secretary after defeating incumbent John Boadu, Justin Kodua said there will not be selective justice in the party under his watch.
He said he was taking a cue from 2008 when there was disunity in the party towards the December general elections after they elected a presidential candidate and was unable to work together.
“I will make sure I hold the party in unity, everyone is given the respect, appreciation and recognition but nobody can take this party for granted. The party headquarters is going to work,” he said.
