Mr Godwin Edudzi Yao Effah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Keta has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, “is still marrying Volta Region,” with “developments reaching every corner,” including hard to reach areas.
He said the Assembly made great strides in sectors such as education, health, trade, agriculture and roads with remote communities having their fair share of the projects, indicating the Party’s ‘love’ for the Region.
Mr Effah, at a press soiree held at the Keta Municipal Assembly Hall, showcased the Assembly’s performance in implementing government’s policies and programmes.
“We have as our $1 million per Constituency, the District Performance Assessment (DPAT) and the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) targets for 2020, the rehabilitation at Asadame Health Centre, construction of a six-seater water closet at Tsiame E.P. Basic School, construction of 22m concrete bridge at Agorvinu and construction of a three-unit classroom blocks each at Sasieme, Aborlove-Nolopi and Lawoshime among other projects,” he said.
The MCE said, “these are some communities you must park cars and walk for about two hours to reach and that tells you our government is committed to reaching every part of the Municipality and the Region with development to impact people’s lives.”
He also mentioned the completion of hostel facility for Keta Nursing and Midwifery Training College, 3-unit classroom block at Horvi, market shed at Anlo-Afiadenyigba, supply of furniture to selected schools, donation of fishing nets to fishermen, 12-unit classroom block at KETASCO, construction of culvert at Havedzi and rehabilitation of old PWD yard at Keta to house some departments in the Municipality among other projects done within the period.
Mr Effah touched on some social intervention programmes saying, “a few weeks ago we had the privilege to distribute working tools/items including irrigation machines, industrial, knitting and hand sewing machines, wheel barrows and cash donations all totaling over GH₵30,000.00 to a number of persons with disabilities.”
On the Assembly’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic, the MCE said it undertook activities including mounting barriers at Abor, Havedzi and KETABUSCO Junction to check travelers.
He said the Assembly was running public education campaign on radio and distribution of various COVID-19 personal protective equipment and hand washing stations.
Mr Effah said some of the interventions were financed from the GH₵50,000.00 released from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and said the Assembly was expecting some GH₵166,000.00 for COVID-19 related infrastructure to contain the spread of the disease.
