The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, has warned Ghanaian voters to be mindful of the fact that a vote for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is an endorsement or an indirect vote for a disguised ‘third term’ for President Akufo-Addo.
Lawyer Gyamfi made these statement on Newsfile, JoyFM’s political talkshow program last Saturday when they were analyzing the American President elect Donald Trump’s victory from the NPP and NDC’s perspectives and the prospects therein for the two parties.
The NDC’s communications officer stated that much like the American electorates, Ghanaians are astute and unlikely to be swayed by what he called “empty rhetoric” from the Vice President.
He intimated that Mr Bawumia’s attempts to portray himself as separate from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) record would not succeed.
“The people of this country are discerning just like the people of America, so just like the people of America did not buy that, I know that the people of Ghana will not buy that campaign of Bawumia because he’s one and the same as Akufo-Addo,” he said.
He further contended that Dr Bawumia could not effectively distance himself from the NPP’s policies and governance under President Akufo-Addo, especially when the party is still in power.
Lawyer Gyamfi also pointed out saying; “Bawumia is running a campaign very similar to that of Kamala Harris because they are all attempting to exonerate themselves from liability and responsibility,” drawing a parallel between Harris’s and Bawumia’s campaign strategies.
According him both leaders are striving to dissociate themselves from their administrations’ shortcomings, an attempt he described as “in futility.”
