The High Court of Justice (General Jurisdiction 6), Accra, has awarded prominent lawyer Ace Anan Ankomah a total of GHS 2.95 million in damages after ruling in his favour in a defamation case against U.S.-based journalist Kevin Ekow Baidoo Taylor and Loud Silence Media.
In a judgment dated February 24, 2020, but formally entered on June 2, 2025, the court found the defendants guilty of publishing false and defamatory statements against Mr. Ankomah through their social media platforms. The defamatory content, shared via Facebook videos under the programme With All Due Respect: Loud Silence Media, was posted in July 2019.
The court awarded:
GHS 2,000,000 in General Damages for Defamation,
GHS 500,000 in Aggravated Damages,
GHS 400,000 in Exemplary Damages, and
GHS 50,000 in legal costs.
Additionally, the court issued a Notice of Entry of Judgment along with a Penal Notice, warning the defendants against ignoring or defying the court’s orders. The court imposed a Mandatory Injunction requiring the defendants to remove defamatory video content and restraining them from further publishing similar content.
Failure to comply with the court’s orders, including contempt proceedings, may lead to further legal consequences for Mr. Taylor and Loud Silence Media.
On July 31, 2025, the court granted an order for substituted service via a one-time publication in the Daily Graphic, allowing service of the judgment and penal notice to be made public, due to the defendants’ overseas locations.
The ruling brings closure to a legal battle that began in July 2019, reaffirming the Ghanaian judiciary’s stance on protecting reputations from baseless attacks in both traditional and digital media spaces.
Mr. Ankomah was represented by solicitor Thaddeus Sory of Sory@Law. The suit was presided over by His Lordship Justice George Akins Ampah-Bonney (Jnr).
