The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Adenta, Hon. Ebenezer Doku, is facing criticism, following a demolition exercise that has sparked controversy and an accusation of land-grabbing.
The MCE reportedly led a task force to demolish structures on a land belonging to a company, situated near the Pentecost Church in Adenta, Accra.
The land, which the said company had occupied for over 20 years as a district office, was leased to the company.
Information indicates that the company recently initiated a move to upgrade its operations by relocating its office to serve as a regional hub while simultaneously re-establishing a fully functional district office on the same land.
However, the MCE allegedly took advantage of the transition period to lay claim to the property using the Adenta District Police since he allegedly promised portions of the lands in and around Adenta.
Reports indicate that Hon. Doku initially requested land ownership documents from the property’s allodia owners, citing claims by a third party to the same land.
According to information, Mr. Doku also claimed the land was acquired from the State Housing Corporation (SHC), which was discovered to be false as SHC does not sell lands.
Subsequently, under contentious circumstances, the MCE is alleged to have sent thugs and a municipal task force to demolish buildings on the land.
The situation escalated further when the rightful landowners attempted to rebuild the demolished wall.
On the instructions of the MCE, police personnel reportedly arrested those re-erecting the structure, further heightening tensions in the area.
According to sources, the MCE is using the Adenta District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Richard Boateng, to frustrate the company workers who are using the facility with threats of arrest.
Sources reveal that a meeting had been scheduled to resolve the matter between the MCE, the alleged new claimant, and the allodia owners.
However, Hon. Doku and his team failed to attend, leaving the dispute unresolved.
Residents and stakeholders are raising concerns over the MCE’s conduct, with accusations of abuse of power and unlawful demolition.
The actions of the MCE have sparked questions about the transparency of the municipal authority’s involvement in land disputes and the legality of the demolition exercise.
Landowners are calling for intervention from higher authorities to ensure justice and accountability.
The incident has underscored growing frustrations over land administration and municipal leadership in the Adenta municipality.
