An Accra High Court has again denied bail to senior police officer ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo who is facing trial for his alleged involvement in an alleged plot to destabilize the country.
According to the court, the application was premature due to the fact that investigations were still ongoing.
The Judge, George Buadi also said the position of the applicant as a senior police officer can make him to influence ongoing investigations.
The ruling follows an application by lawyers of ACP Agordzo who argued that their client according to the law could be granted bail pending trial.
In their arguments before the court, the lawyers led by Martin Kpebu though agreed that there has not been any unreasonable delay in the case, said their client was entitled to bail and will make himself available for investigations or trial if needed.
On the other hand, the State’s lawyers objected to the application stating that the senior police officer status of Dr. Agordzo could make him influence investigations that are still ongoing if released on bail.
ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo has been charged with abetment to commit crime namely treason felony and is currently on remand in police custody.
He is being held in connection with his alleged involvement and contribution to the ‘Take Action Ghana’ group which the State claims have devised a detailed plot to destabilize the county.
Seven others, including Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, the Chief Executive Officer of the Citadel Hospital in Alajo are in custody over the same matter.
The decision by the court is similar to another ruling last week dismissing another bail application by the seven accused persons facing trial for their alleged plot to topple the government.
