The youth of Akuapem-Mamfe in the Eastern Region, have commended Nana Yaa Nyarkoa I, the Akyempem Hene of Ayiresi for taken their future tasks into consideration.
The youth went gay for the traditional ruler when she launched the NYN Foundation, aim at creating job avenues for the youth within the area.
The NYN Foundation is opened to partner with Individual Philanthropists, Churches, Corporate institutions, and Corporate Foundations, Chiefs and Queen mothers, International Development Organizations, Bilateral and Multilateral organizations, Government at all levels, Embassies/ High Commissions, Community Associations etc. to transform and change people’s lives.
Graced by other traditional leaders within the area, the occasion was also used to unveil a plaque to launch the 5th anniversary celebration of her reign as a traditional ruler.
The anniversary according to the Traditional Leader, has been planned around a week long celebrations and promises to be very colourful and engaging with interesting events as well as display of rich cultural activities that will inform and educate both guests and indigenes.
As Speaking to the media after the launch, Nana Nyarkoa I disclosed that the entire anniversary has been planned around ten core mandates which the committee seek to achieve before, during and after the week long celebrations.
As a descendant of the late Okuapemhene, Ↄseadeεyᴐ Nana Addo Dankwa III and the Late Okuapehemea Nana Dokua II), Nana Nyarkoa I, noted the youth are the future leaders of the country, hence the need to prepare them towards their future tasks.
She mentioned them as follows; Community Development, NYN Special Awards, Youths and Women in Agribusiness, The NYN Scholarship Scheme, The NYN Vocational series, Special care for the Elderly, Early Childhood Development,
Seen as a role model to many, Nana Nyarkoa I believes that progress must start from the rural communities to the towns and then extend to the urban centers in the country.
According to her, the NYN Foundation seeks to, through its efforts and interventions to assist and accelerate development whilst providing inclusive opportunities for social and economic growth and development for the traditional area, Mamfe Akuapem.
She believed that traditional Area needs all the essential appendages for progress and therefore has opened its doors for funding and support from Philanthropists, churches, corporate bodies and Foundations, Chiefs and Queen mothers, International Development Organizations, Bilateral and Multilateral Organizations.
“The role of a Chief is to seek the welfare of everyone in the community especially the vulnerable, women and children which she widely recognizes and doing all it takes to make those expectations come to fruition. The multi-faceted central role of the Chief in the community can be explored to affect social and behavioral change in our communities, affecting Ghana as a whole” she indicated.
Trusted by those in her community due to her humility, the traditional ruler believes that if the principles of nation building are replicated in the rural areas, there could be massive development in the lives of all people in the villages just as in the cities.
“The challenge of changing behavior and effecting social change is not peculiar to Ghana only, but the institution of the Chief presents a unique opportunity to use their role in society for change” she noted.
She also stated that the multi-faceted central role of a Chief in his or her community can be explored to affect social and behavioral change in our communities and the country as a whole.
About Nana Yaa Nyarkoa;
She started her schooling at Accra New Town Agbodzokpo and continued at Accra New Town Bethel Primary and Accra New Town “11” Primary Schools. She went on to St. Johns Junior Secondary School also at New Town in Accra. Whiles there, she was the Girls’ Prefect and won the Best in Sports (Javelin and Short put) for Ayawaso Sub-Metro.
Upon completion, she went to Harvard College, Accra to read Business Accounting. She was the Girls’ Prefect there and the C.O. of the school’s Cadet. Her tertiary education got her studying for the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIM-Ghana) at the University College of Management Studies in Accra. There too she was voted as the Women’s Commissioner and a member of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS). Nana has the passion for Theatre Arts so whiles in Harvard College, she joined David Dontoh’s Kozi Kozi Theatre Group at the National Theatre. After her university education, the same passion got her to enroll in Studio 502 Media School to study Film-Making and Media Consultancy. She is a full-time Film Director and a Farmer. She is the C. E. O. of ↃdehyeHouse Productions. Currently, she is at the helm of the production of a television program dubbed “Giving Back to Society!” This program creates the platform to showcase peoples’ good deeds and seeks to identify societal issues that require help and link them to individuals, groups, churches and corporate bodies, who can address them.
It seeks to strengthen beneficiaries of corporate social responsibility to learn to be independent and also contribute to National Development. Due to her love for serving humanity, she is a member of the Rotary/Rotaract International. Her hobbies are Filming, Cycling, Farming, Cooking, Swimming and Dancing.
