Two prominent individuals were specifically honoured by the Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region, during the 38th celebration of farmer’s day.
The District event which took place at Akyem Etwereso was graced by very important personalities including the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who is also the Member of Parliament in the area.
Farmers who have distinguished themselves during the year were awarded a wide range of gifts with the ultimate winner going home with a tricycle and other farming equipment and supplies, the runner-up went home with a motorbike and other farm equipment and supplies while the second runner-up grade refrigerator and other farm equipment.
The District assembly used the occasion to honor these two prominent individuals for their contribution to championing green Ghana activities.
Making the presentation to the Chief and the representative of Richie Plantation, the District Chief of Executives, Paul Asamoah gave narratives about the immense contributions of these personalities towards the green Ghana program which has been initiated by the Ministry of Lands and natural resources.
He told the gathering that the assembly decided to honor these two personalities on the farmer’s day because, without a green Ghana environment, there wouldn’t be fertile lands for effective farming activities.
He thanked them for helping the Assembly to embark on tree-planting activities to achieve a green Ghana environment.
Citations in honor of the two personalities were presented to them by the assembly.
The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added a traditional Kente to the Citation for Daasebre Ayebiahwe to crown the day.
