Annoh-Dompreh Fulfils Campaign Promise With 500 Free Driver’s Licenses To Nsawam Drivers

In a move that has drawn both praise and political commentary, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency in the Eastern Region and Minority Chief Whip, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh has distributed over 500 driver’s licenses to taxi drivers within his constituency.

The symbolic handover took place on Sunday, July 27, at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency office in Nsawam.

The initiative, which was originally launched in 2023 ahead of the 2024 general elections, aimed to support commercial drivers by covering the full cost of obtaining valid driving licenses through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA). Each license is valid for six years.

Though critics at the time questioned the timing and political motivation behind the registration drive—suggesting it was a vote-seeking strategy—Annoh-Dompreh has remained committed to fulfilling his promise despite the NPP losing the 2024 general elections to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the MP personally handed over the licenses to individual drivers and urged them to make responsible use of the document, emphasizing that it was not only a legal requirement but also a symbol of their livelihood and professionalism.

“I made a promise to these hardworking drivers before the elections, and I am proud to stand here today—despite my party not being in power—to fulfil that promise,” he said.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, in his address, used the occasion to criticize the current NDC administration, stating that the government had failed to deliver on its 2024 campaign promises.

He accused the ruling party of using “lies and deceit” to win power and said the worsening cost of living and increasing insecurity were proof that the so-called “Reset Agenda” was failing

“Under the NPP, the cost of living was manageable, and there was more stability in the economy. Today, prices of goods and services have skyrocketed. Ghanaians are facing the real consequences of electing the NDC,” the Minority Chief Whip asserted.

He also raised concerns about the growing threat of illegal mining, or “galamsey,” which he said has worsened under the NDC’s watch.

He accused the government of turning a blind eye to environmental degradation, particularly the destruction of water bodies through the use of mercury.

“We in the Minority have even petitioned the government on this matter. They promised a state of emergency to deal with galamsey, but nothing meaningful has been done. Their true colours are beginning to show,” he added.

Despite being in opposition, Annoh-Dompreh reaffirmed his commitment to development in the constituency.

He assured residents that all ongoing projects initiated during the NPP administration would be completed and that he would continue to lobby for progress, regardless of which party is in government.

He concluded by urging residents to remain hopeful and loyal to the NPP, promising a stronger comeback in the 2028 general elections.

“I urge all of you to keep faith with the NPP. Come 2028, we will rescue Ghana from this hardship and restore the dignity of our nation.”

The event brought together dozens of local drivers, community members, and NPP constituency executives.

Many drivers expressed gratitude to the MP, calling the licenses a “life-changing” support that would allow them to work freely and legally.
