Nananom of the Aowin Traditional Area in the Western North Region have resolved to severe ties with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament MP for the area, Oscar Ofori Larbi.
The traditional leaders took the decision to ostracize the MP at the end of their meeting at Enchi in the region on Friday, January 6, 2025.
“We have resolved to bring to the notice of the President of the Republic of Ghana, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Speaker of Parliament and the Chairman of the NDC”.
“We also bring to the notice of the Western-North Regional Minister and the people of the Aowin Municipality that Nananom have severed ties with and ostracized the MP and ban him from setting foot on the soil of Aowin Traditional Area”.
According to the chiefs, although the MP was duly elected in the last general elections by the electorate in the Aowin Constituency, he is allegedly misusing the mandate of the people of the Aowin Constituency
7They accused the MP of purportedly plotting against and erode the hard-earned reputation of Beyeeman TanoKwaw Benbuin III, the Omanhene and President of the Aowin Traditional Council.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by 16 chiefs in the Aowin Traditional Area.
They included Nana Oppong Payin III Chief of Omanpe & Krontihene of Aowin Traditional AreaN; ana Enoku Payin III, Chief of New Yakasi & Adikyire to the Paramountcy; Nana Amoa II, Queen mother, Aowin Traditional Area and Nana Meisu Payin III, Chief of Sewum & Adontehene of Aowin Traditional Area.
The rest included Nana Kojo Ntow II, Chief of Nkwanta No 2 & Heneyere to the Paramountcy and Nana Payin II, Chief/Tufuhene of Enchi among other chiefs.
They stated “The MP thinks he wields enormous political power to erode the traditions and the cultural authority bestowed on and inherited by Nananom from our ancestors and the indigenes of Aowin”.
“He believes the political power he holds invariably allows him to share the traditional and cultural space of Aowin with Nananom”
“He thinks his modus operandi on our ancestral lands cannot be questioned by Nananom who are the bona fide custodians of Aowin Stool lands”, the chiefs stated.
The chiefs asserted that the MP has on three occasions, ignored invitation by Nananom to appear before them.
“Again, he has orchestrated nationwide radio interviews through which he has displayed gross insubordination towards Aowin Omanhene and the chiefs in the Aowin Traditional Area and the paid for maligned documentary he has created to humiliate the chiefs”.
The statement continued “Nananom are of view that, if the MP has to denigrate the Aowin Omanhene, then, Nananom have the reason to sever ties with him and therefore, banish him from the Aowin Traditional Area”.
Meanwhile, the MP, Oscar Ofori Larbi has in earlier interview denied all the allegations leveled against him.
