A group of youth calling themselves Concern Youth of Kwahu in the Eastern Region have passionately called on the Eastern North Commander of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to immediately initiate investigations into the kidnapped of Nana Ottupre Kwagyani II, Kwahu Abetifi Kubeasehene.
According to the youth, the investigations would assist the Police in unraveling the faceless individuals who are inappropriately showcasing their power and intimidating residents of Kwahu in their quest to seek for the right things to be done.
This came to light during a joint press conference organized by the youth group and Abetifi Kubease Etena Rroyal family of Kwahu to bring to the public space the circumstances that led to the kidnapping of their chief among other insecurity matters unfolding in the area.
It could be recalled that Nana Ottupre Kwagyani II, the Kwahu Abetifi Kubeasehene was forcefully taken away from his house by some six (6) unknown gunmen to the Abene palace on early Monday morning of October 16, 2023.
Speaking to the media, the leader of Concern Youth of Kwahu Mr. Kofi Nkrumah Asante described the kidnapping of the Kubeasehene as a barbaric, unfortunate, and a clear signal of a security threat.
Despite paying a glowing tribute to the leadership of the Eastern North Commander of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) for the swift intervention to rescue Nana Ottupre Kwagyani II, Kwahu Abetifi Kubeasehene at Abene Palace.
The Concern Youth of Kwahu leader recounted some similar incidents that have taken place in areas such as Nkwatia, Pepease, Tafo, Pitiko, and Atibie which nothing was done about it, a situation that is motivating the perpetrators to continue this hideous act.
“The Police have been swift in all these matters to rescue the victims but for how long or the usual I don’t care posture of Ghanaians until someone is killed before acting appropriately”, he asked.
Mr. Kofi Asante continued that “if the Kubeasehene had died then probably it would be another Chief’s turn to be killed. The kidnappers told the Kubeasehene that if he should not allow the funeral rite to come off then he should be ready they would destroy his entire family”.
To the youth leader, this threat must not be treated with kids gloves and he therefore called on the Police Service to arrest the actors of the kidnapping in order to bring the situation to a rest before it lean towards too bad thing.
The Abetifi Kubease Etena Royal Family on the other hand expressed their profound gratitude to the leadership of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) for the swift intervention to rescue Nana Ottupre Kwagyani II, Kwahu Abetifi Kubeasehene at Abene Palace.
Opanyin Kwadwo Agyeman his brother who is suffering a minor stroke was subjected to inhuman treatment by this group of unscrupulous individuals before he was thrown into the bucket of their pickup vehicle to their final destination, Abene Palace.
He claimed one of the grandsons of the chief was stabbed with a knife when attempting to prevent the kidnappers from taking the chief.
The Abusuapanin attributed the uncivilized action and inappropriate use of power to the recent quo warranto order restraining the Kwahu Traditional Area and Kwahumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah from holding the final funeral rite for the former Kwamumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II.
According to him, the recent development in the area has sent shivers down the spine of family members because the Abetifi Kubeasehene was warned at the Abene Palace to desist from opposing the final funeral rites else his life would be taken.
Opanyin Kwadwo Agyeman has called on the police to keep providing them with security for the Chief and his entire family and also do all they can to get the kidnappers arrested.
