The National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has fiercely rejected a Ministry of the Interior report claiming there was no evidence of violence linked to a death during the 2024 general elections, accusing the government of attempting to shield those responsible.
Speaking during his “Thank You” tour of the Central Region, Mr Asiedu Nketia described the report as politically tainted and agenda-driven, suggesting it was crafted to protect perpetrators because of political and personal connections.
He warned that Ghana cannot pretend electoral violence did not happen, insisting that both the architects and foot soldiers behind violence in the 2020 and 2024 elections must be punished to prevent future abuses.
“We are not children. If we agree electoral violence is wrong, then we must stop pretending and covering it up,” he said, signalling the NDC’s refusal to accept what he described as institutional silence and complicity.
Mr Asiedu Nketia vowed the party would relentlessly pursue justice, stressing that democracy cannot thrive when violence is ignored and accountability is sacrificed for political convenience. He called on state institutions, political actors and civil society to prove their commitment to justice, transparency and peaceful elections, warning that failure to act will embolden future perpetrators.
